Westward Leaning was founded to be a different kind of sunglasses company. The goal was to create glasses that are greater than the sum of their parts and we want to do our part to be as ethical, sustainable, fair and socially-conscious as possible in every decision we make.

We have always drawn inspiration from the many beautiful materials used in our signature side inlays. In our first collection, the brass added to the Louisiana Purchase style was inspired by our love of Jazz and proceeds supported the Jazz Association of America. Our Teddy Roosevelt frame featured antler, naturally-shed and gathered by the Boy Scouts of America, with proceeds giving back to the National Parks. While our assortment and collection of materials has grown, our charitable commitment has always been central to the Westward Leaning brand. We are proud to sponsor organizations that are a force for good in our world.

15% of net proceeds from the sales of our Optical collection will go to support the Northern California Chapter of Vision to Learn. Vision to Learn provides free eye exams and glasses to children in low income areas. Learn more about Vision to Learn here.

Dress for Success advocate, Olivia Palermo, and Westward Leaning will donate 10% of the net profits of the sale of the Westward Leaning x Olivia Palermo collection to the not-for-profit organization whose mission is to empower women to achieve economic independence. As an international style authority and fashion entrepreneur, Olivia understands first-hand the impact that style and one’s wardrobe can have on self-confidence, especially as it relates to the professional world. The Westward Leaning x Olivia Palermo donation will not only provide additional resources for women in need to obtain professional attire but will also help fund the network of support and development tools that the Dress for Success organization offers.

Proceeds from the sale of each Westward Leaning SPORT model benefit #LADIESFIRST, an initiative of Street Soccer USA. Street Soccer USA offers after school soccer programs for students across the country.

A portion of proceeds of sales from all 2019 core collection models will benefit Teach for America, the National Parks Foundation, and Reporters Without Borders.

“This collection was inspired by volcanoes-- volcanic textures, molten metals, and all the associated imagery of how the surface of the earth is formed. And while volcanoes can be beautiful and inspiring, they can also bring with them terribly destructive power and impacts on human life and society. Therefore, a percentage of net profits from the sale of these glasses will go to the National Parks Foundation, which is a leading source of information and study on volcanoes and their impacts, both on the natural world and human development.”

– Eliot Jungers, Creative Director of Westward Leaning

“We are thrilled to partner with a brand like Westward Leaning, who like Alexis Bittar believes we need to do our due diligence to bring awareness to the earth’s most beautiful yet destructive elements. Together, we are proud to meet in the middle and work effortlessly to bring light to this from opposite sides of the country.”
